A stage beneath your feet

When Simon, a former theatre artist turned finance professional, began renovating his new penthouse in central Bucharest, he wasn’t just building a home – he was creating a stage for life. Light poured through floor-to-ceiling windows, dancing across open rooms and a wrap-around terrace. What he needed wasn’t just a floor. He needed a foundation for a vision.

“To be frank – I think it is a visionary and exciting approach to flooring.” – Simon

“To me, interior design isn’t just functional. It’s a form of communication. A way to shape how people interact – not just with a space, but with each other.”

Simon brought in Miriam, a materials expert with a sharp eye for both performance and design.  A polymer scientist by training, Miriam had recently pivoted into high-end interior design consulting. She met Simon through mutual contacts and was brought on to help develop every material detail of the apartment – acoustic insulation, bespoke furniture, and crucially, the flooring.

“Simon wanted a space that felt expressive,” says Miriam. “A place where the materials told a story. That kind of brief is a dream -for a designer, and for a material scientist.”

“I wasn’t just sourcing products – I was curating an experience. The flooring had to be durable, seamless, and safe, but also sophisticated enough to reflect Simon’s personality and vision. And it needed to be able to give each room its own vibe and expression.”

The launch of a partnership

In her search for advanced materials, Miriam came across Deko Design Systems. Their polyurethane technology checked every box: seamless surfaces, high resistance to wear, low VOC formulas, and a minimalist beauty that elevated the room without overwhelming it. She was so impressed with what she saw, she didn’t just browse a product catalogue — she flew to Denmark to see the floors in person.

“Once I saw the installations and spoke with the Deko Design Systems team, I was completely sold. It wasn’t just flooring – it was innovation, performance, and aesthetic design in perfect balance. And I knew it was exactly what I needed for Simon’s penthouse.”

Impressed by the seamless beauty, scratch-resistance, and low VOC technology, Miriam didn’t just choose Deko Design Systems for Simon’s home – she decided to go further. She formally partnered with Deko Design Systems, launching Polyvella as the Romanian partner for their premium polyurethane flooring. Her vision: to elevate the standard of residential and commercial flooring in Romania, and train a network of top-tier installers to do it right.

“This wasn’t a supplier-client transaction. It was the start of a design movement. Romania has long needed a high-performance, sustainable, and luxurious flooring solution. Now we have it.”

A custom story underfoot – 7 designs, 1 home

The penthouse itself became a showcase. Deko Design Systems’ chief product designer, Sascha, traveled to Bucharest for a full week to design and personally install the floors. Working closely with Simon and Miriam, he translated vision into surface – with seven custom designs and color palettes across:

  • Three bedrooms
  • Two bathrooms
  • A living room
  • A kitchen area

Simon wasn’t afraid to experiment. Drawing from natural tones and organic themes, he worked with Sascha to craft a palette that moved with the light. Earth tones met deep blue and airy white. The kitchen floor was inspired by sunrise, the living room by sunset.

“I wanted each space to feel distinct,” Simon explains, “but also part of a whole story. The floor connects it all. I already know I’ll design my kitchen countertop to match.”

More than a home – a beginning

The installation was smooth, collaborative, and deeply satisfying. Both Simon and Miriam were thrilled with the results. The apartment now stands as a statement—not just of bold interior design, but of what’s possible when science and artistry meet underfoot.

And this was only the beginning.

Miriam and Polyvella are now rolling out Deko Design Systems flooring solutions across Romania, offering certified training, technical support, and a curated selection of designs for exclusive residential and commercial projects.

“This partnership isn’t just about selling floors,” says Miriam. “It’s about raising expectations. People deserve surfaces that perform at the highest level – and look even better doing it.”

From a penthouse in Bucharest to the future of flooring in Romania, this story proves one thing: the right foundation can change everything.

Whether you’re designing a personal sanctuary or a high-traffic public space, Deko Design Systems flooring transforms the ground you walk on into part of the story.
